Work Weekend Wrap-Up

In order to get ready for the camp season, each year we dust off the cobwebs, check smoke alarms, replace rotting boards, and check the facilities at our Okema May Long work weekend. We love to ready this space for our campers, visualizing the fun they will have on the playground, the relationships built with cabin mates, and the faith that will be nurtured around the campfire.

We had 15 volunteers attend this year. We accomplished the general list for opening camp, trimmed trees, and moved some more sand into the sandbox with our next playground.

The fondly named ’squirrel shed’ (a storage shed on the property) is being cleaned out with the aim of using it to house some other materials.

With a smaller number of people than last year, we would finish a job, then discover two more. There is always something to do.

We are grateful for the volunteers who put their time, money, and talents into this place. Thank you.

We look forward to seeing you at Okema this summer!
